Fish Fossil Plate Metallic / Shiny which can appear as eitherA snapshot in geologic time, this fossil fish plate comes from the Lake Gosuite Deposit of Sweetwater County, Wyoming. Dated at approximately 48 million years old, it looks like a school of fish is about to swim off of this fossil! The preservation shows detailed bone structure in warm oranges and earth tones caused by iron oxide. This variety of fish is thought to be Knightia alta, a variety of herring fish.
